Coco Chanel once said “The best colour in the world is the one that looks good on you” – how true is that?  Certainly, the lovely shades of yellow for the new season are going to be wasted on a lady with ash tones in her hair but how spectacular will that same lady look in hot pink?  By knowing your ‘wow’ colours, you will be able to pick and choose from the season’s colours – the ones that look good on you.  That lemon is going to look great on someone – maybe even you!

I love helping people and as a Consultant with Colour me Beautiful, I've been able to do just that.  Colour analysis helps you understand your own colouring and gives you the confidence to buy colours that suit you – maybe some that you never thought you could wear.

I worked in the corporate sector for many years before training with CMB and by incorporating my professionalism and people skills with an eye for colour and style I’ve been able to help ladies look and feel more beautiful.

I live in Woodford (near Bramhall, Cheshire) with my husband, I have 4 girls aged between 18 and 25 and alongside my image business, I still work part time as a freelance PA.

The idea of colour analysis is to match the colour of your hair, eyes and skin tone to a palette of colours that will suit you best.  When you wear a colour near your face the light reflects upwards and this can cast flattering tones or drain the colour from your face depending on the colour and your skin tone.  So a colour can make you look radiant or actually quite ill!

Capsule Wardrobe

A capsule wardrobe is a collection of mix and match seasonal pieces you’ll wear time and time again. The secret to smart shopping is about choosing items that can be worn together in many different ways to make your wardrobe work harder. So once you understand your style and shape, a carefully chosen collection of items can be combined in dozens of outfits, giving real value for money.

In reality everyone’s lifestyle is different and your personality is different too.  If you have a ‘Classic’ style personality and a city job you will be going for plain colours, smart tailoring in co-ordinating colours.  A ‘Natural’ personality type who is in teaching would be going for something completely different – unstructured jackets and more relaxed styles and colours.

Having a Style Consultation will make it much easier for you to decide what you'll need in your capsule wardrobe.

Stylist to the BBC!

Knowing which styles suit you is almost as important as knowing your colours.  Last summer I was the guest Stylist on BBC Radio Manchester’s “Retail Therapy” with Becky Want live from the Trafford Centre.  She had a listener who had called in with a problem and I was called in to find some clothes for her.  We had no problem whatsoever finding 6-8 outfits in the 40 mins allocated.

If you have problems finding clothes for your age, shape or size, I’d love to hear from you.

Seasonal Update – Spring/ Summer 2012

This is going to be a fun season for all with the Queens Diamond Jubilee bringing a retro feel to clothes and come July and August we will all being going for gold in every shade with the London Olympics.  Yellow is a key colour for the season and sportswear will be playing a major part.

The film, The Iron Lady is responsible for taking our minds back to that era with Maggie’s blues and strands of pearls.  Blues of all shades have shown a strong presence on the catwalk with influences from nature – blue skies and deep blue sea.

Another new film, the remake of The Great Gatsby is adding some elegance to styles with dropped waists and beaded fabrics.  Lace which used to be worn only for evenings and special occasions, comes in every shade and with modern manufacturing techniques comes with very affordable price tag.

Pastel colours have made an impact too.  Think of ice cream cones full of lovely strawberry pink, creamy vanilla, pistaschio, lemon sorbet and coffee ice cream.

Prints are everywhere from strong tropical designs to pale English country roses.  Wear them on full skirts, 50’s style or in more fitted shifts depending on your preference.

Red in every shade is big again this season.  It’s great for boosting energy levels.  Wear it with a strong pink for a striking combination as Helen Mirren did on the red carpet recently.
